June 21, 2020 - The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed 121 lives in Kenya, with 4,478 cases reported since the first infection on March 13. Of these, 1,586 have recovered since April 1.
According to a recent poll by Infotrak, Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe is the most trusted source in the virus containment campaign, with 83% of 1,200 respondents in 24 counties expressing their approval.
President Uhuru Kenyatta follows closely, with 82% of respondents trusting him. The poll also found that 76% of Kenyans rely on television for information, while 74% trust radio.
Infotrak Research Executive Manager Walter Nyabundi noted that Kenyans continue to have faith in Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe regarding coronavirus information, with the majority also trusting the president.
Seventy-one percent of respondents trust their governors, 69% expressed confidence in opinion leaders, 62% newspapers, 39% social media sources, and 34% said they relied on family and friends.
Despite the stress caused by COVID-19 news, 78% of respondents believe it is essential to know what the government is doing to contain the virus.
