President Uhuru Kenyatta's decision will determine the fate of Garissa Township MP Aden Duale as National Assembly Majority Leader, according to Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu.
Speaking on June 21, Wambugu stated that Duale's survival depends on whether the President has confidence in him or not, citing that if he has regained the President's confidence, he will survive, but if not, he will not.
Wambugu's comments came after 126 out of 179 Jubilee party MPs signed to kick out Duale ahead of a Jubilee Party Parliamentary Group meeting convened by President Kenyatta on June 22 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.
President Kenyatta had previously lost faith in Duale, but Wambugu argued that if his confidence in the Majority Leader had been restored, he was set to survive an onslaught by Jubilee MPs.
Political Analyst Mark Bichache from Uhondo News argued that if Duale was removed, it would be in line with the procedure in which he got the position, stating that the President has said that Duale should be okay in losing the seat, as he got it by Jubilee MPs being whipped in a Parliamentary meeting.
Kieni MP Kanini Kega initiated the petition to have Duale ousted, terming him as a 'liability to the ruling party.'
According to the 2010 Constitution, a member of the National Assembly elected under any of the majority positions may be removed by a majority of the votes of all the MPs belonging to the Majority Party.
