On June 21, 2020, the Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation provided crucial support to over 200 artists in Mwingi, Kenya, as they struggled to cope with the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The artists, who rely heavily on income from live performances in large public gatherings, were hit hard by the ban on public gatherings and closure of entertainment joints.
At an event held at the residence of Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi in Kiseveni, the artists received food items, sanitizers, and face masks.
Speaking at the event, MP Mulyungi praised Kalonzo's foundation for its timely assistance and encouraged other local leaders to remember artists when distributing food relief to their residents.
Earlier in April, President Uhuru Kenyatta had directed the Sports, Arts, and Social Development Fund to provide a Sh100 million stimulus package to cushion workers in the creative industry.
The Ministry of Sports, Culture, and Heritage had launched the 'Work for Pay' package in May, aimed at supporting artists, actors, and musicians.
