On June 21, 2020, the Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation extended a helping hand to over 200 artists in Mwingi, donating essential items to shield them from the Covid-19 pandemic.
The artists, whose livelihoods have been severely affected by the closure of entertainment joints and ban on public gatherings, received food items, sanitizers, and face masks at an event held at the residence of Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi.
Speaking at the event, Mulyungi acknowledged the devastating impact of the pandemic on the entertainment sector, emphasizing that many artists rely on income from live performances in large public gatherings.
He commended the Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation for its timely assistance and urged other local leaders to remember artists when distributing food relief to their residents.
Notably, the Ministry of Sports, Culture, and Heritage had launched a Sh100 million stimulus package for artists, actors, and musicians just a month prior, in response to an Executive Order by President Uhuru Kenyatta in April.
