On June 21, 2020, Somalia was rocked by two separate bomb attacks, resulting in the deaths of at least seven people.

One of the attacks occurred in Galmudug state, where three militants blew up a car at a military checkpoint, killing three soldiers.

Separately, two bombs were detonated outside the home of a military official in Wanlaweyn, killing four people.

According to the Somali Islamist militant group al-Shabab, they carried out the attack in Wanlaweyn, as reported by the Somali Memo news website.

However, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack in Galmudug state.

Witnesses described the attack in Wanlaweyn as follows: 'First we heard a blast at the house. The military officer was absent by then. Guards and residents came to find out what caused the blast and then a second blast went off,' said Mohamed Nur, a police officer in Wanlaweyn.

These attacks are a grim reminder of the ongoing conflict in Somalia, where al-Shabab is fighting to overthrow the government and establish Islamic law, or Sharia.
