Published on June 21, 2020, Philemon Otieno, a defender for Gor Mahia, has shared that he missed out on joining other clubs due to a knee injury he sustained in August 2019.

During a match for Harambee Stars against Tanzania in a CHAN qualifier, Otieno suffered the injury, which kept him out of action for about a year.

Despite the setback, Otieno expressed gratitude to his club for extending his contract by another year.

However, the injury led to a dispute between his club and the Football Kenya Federation over who was responsible for his medical bills.

Former Kibera Parliamentary aspirant Eliud Owalo showed support to the players by offering them a financial boost of 250,000 shillings, which came at a time when the club was facing delayed salaries.

Interestingly, this gesture came just days after Kogalo secured a sponsorship deal for 3 years from betting company Bet-safe.
