The Kenya COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund Board has been inspecting production facilities of locally manufactured Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) ordered for the Ministry of Health.
Chairperson Jane Karuku led the team on a two-day site visit to confirm that the production schedules for the locally produced PPEs worth over Kshs 600 million are on course.
During the visit, the team inspected production facilities at Texplast in Kikuyu, Alpha Knits in Kiambu County, Manchester Outfitters in Nairobi County, and Kitui County Textile Centre (KICOTEC) and Shona EPZ near Athi River town.
Speaking at Manchester Outfitters, Karuku confirmed that local PPE producers are working within the stipulated delivery schedules and have proved their worth as dependable suppliers for the much-needed kits.
“The board is impressed at the workmanship and production quality for the PPEs ordered, and we remain optimistic that we shall commence delivery to the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority by the end of next week,” Karuku said.
The Kenya COVID-19 Fund has released financial resources amounting to over Kshs 1 billion for the local procurement of Full kit PPEs, protective goggles, gowns, examination gloves, surgical and respirator masks.
