On Saturday night, leaflets calling for mass demonstrations against Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru were dropped across the county, sparking calls for action against alleged corruption in the county government administration.
The leaflets, written in Kikuyu and English, urge locals to hold demonstrations from Tuesday, June 22, 2020, to fight for their rights and stop corruption in the county.
According to one of the leaflets, 'No more corruption. We must come out young and old from tomorrow Tuesday 22/06/2020 to fight for our rights as people of Kirinyaga. We must stop corruption in our county. Waiguru must go and time to force her out of office is now.'
The move comes as the 11-member special committee formed to investigate the allegations against Governor Waiguru is set to start hearing on Tuesday, June 23, 2020.
As part of the proceedings, the Kirinyaga County Assembly has been instructed to designate not more than three MCAs to attend and represent the assembly in the proceedings before the Special Committee.
Already, Governor Waiguru has filed her responses to the impeachment motion against her in compliance with the Senate's request.
On June 16, the Senate established the 11-member committee headed by Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala following a highly-charged proceeding characterized by shouting and name-calling.
