TV47, a young media station owned by Mount Kenya University, has lost its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Eugene Anangwe, just months after he joined the broadcaster.
On June 20, 2020, Anangwe announced his resignation on Twitter, attributing it to 'personal reasons.'
Before joining TV47, Anangwe worked as a news anchor at CNBC Africa from August 2018 to February 2019, and as a KTN News correspondent in Rwanda and a talkshow host for Rwanda TV.
During his tenure at TV47, Anangwe claimed to have done a commendable job, building the station from scratch and establishing it as a reputable brand.
‘I took a chance with this baby. I call it my baby because I, we, gave it life. Setting up TV47 from scratch was definitely a new challenge and I am happy that I had all of you to help me in building the brand that TV47 is today. My plea to all of you is to never let this ship sink. Make it sail on for generations that will come after you so that they can also have a place to practice great journalism and tell the untold stories,' Anangwe said.
TV47 went live in June 2019, and by March 2020, the broadcaster had conducted a second wave of recruitment, adding more experience and talent to its editorial team.
During the COVID-19 period, TV47, like many other businesses, was forced to make tough business decisions, including letting go of some personnel to stay afloat.
