Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has become a household name thanks to his daily updates on the state of coronavirus in the country. He has won the hearts of Kenyans and earned the trust of many ever since he took over the health docket at the beginning of March 2020.

However, little is known or mentioned about his wife, who is President Uhuru Kenyatta's key advisor on Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs). But behind the scenes, there is a woman who is the driving force behind Kagwe's determination, passion, and success.

Meet Anne Wanjiku Mutahi, a soft-spoken but firm financial expert who has served in several top financial institutions, including Citibank, ABN AMRO Bank, and a microfinance institution called Jitegemee Trust Limited.

Wanjiku is the daughter of former Environment minister, the late John Michuki. She is an accomplished financial expert and astute manager who has steered business firms to financial success in the past two decades.

As a consultant, Wanjiku has worked with several top financial institutions, including serving as a director at Old Mutual Life Assurance Company and the chairman of Standard Chartered Bank Kenya. She was also the executive director of Biashara Factors Limited, a consultancy firm that provides trade services to SMEs.

Wanjiku holds a Master's Degree from the University of Cape Town and an undergraduate degree from Duquesne University of The Holy Spirit. The power couple has four children.
