On June 20, 2020, police in Kisii County cracked down on a party in Ogembo that was in blatant disregard of Covid-19 containment rules.
Thirty-eight youths, aged between 14 and 20, were arrested for partying in a locked room, where they were found with 14 used condoms and drinking chang'aa.
The group, comprising 34 boys and four girls, was put into quarantine alongside the owner of the room, awaiting Covid-19 tests.
Kisii County Police Commander Jebel Munene revealed that the youths were drinking chang'aa and appealed to parents to monitor their children, especially during the school closure period.
He also stated that police were following leads to arrest those who collude with illicit liquor brewers to supply alcohol to students.
