Published on June 21, 2020, Neal Maupay, a Brighton forward, has come under fire for his role in a serious injury to Arsenal keeper Bernd Leno during a match on June 20, 2020.

Leno landed awkwardly after being nudged by Maupay and had to be carried off on a stretcher as Arsenal lost 2-1.

Maupay defended his actions, stating that some of the Arsenal players needed to learn humility. He also claimed that one of the players had been talking negatively throughout the game.

Maupay apologized to Leno and the Arsenal team, stating that he had never intended to injure the keeper and that he had jumped for the ball.

However, Maupay's comments were met with criticism from Arsenal players, who surrounded him at full-time. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta also defended Maupay, stating that he did not believe the Brighton player had intentionally injured Leno.
