On June 17, 2020, a dramatic scene unfolded in court as Chief Inspector Biot Miruni Wafula was unable to testify due to intoxication.

Wafula was scheduled to testify in a case involving former Rift Valley police boss John M'Mbijiwe and former Anti-Stock Theft Unit Commandant Michael Remi Ngugi, who are facing abuse of office charges.

However, upon arrival, Wafula was found to be in no state to give his testimony, prompting Principal Magistrate Joe Omido to order his remand in the court cells.

Wafula was detained for two hours before being released on a Sh 50,000 bond, charged with appearing in court drunk.

The case, which has been ongoing, involves allegations of abuse of office and shielding Joshua Waiganjo, who was accused of masquerading as a senior police officer for years without being detected.

Former Rift Valley Provincial police boss Francis Musembi, a prosecution witness, had previously testified that the appointment of Waiganjo was linked to former commissioner of police Mathew Iteere.
