On Saturday, June 20, 2020, Lilian Ng'ang'a, the First Lady of Machakos county, marked her 35th birthday in a unique way - by completing a 35km run at Mua Hills.
Joined by her husband, Governor Alfred Mutua, and other top athletes, Lilian started her run at the Kaseve centre and covered the 35km distance, finishing at the A & L Hotel on Machakos road.
According to Governor Mutua, Lilian chose to run on Saturday instead of her actual birthday on Monday, June 22, to avoid disrupting other people's schedules.
“Lilian turns 35 on Monday, June 22nd but she chose to run today on the 20th because it is a Saturday and less disruptive of other people’s schedules. She has been training for this marathon for months because she enjoys running,” Governor Mutua tweeted.
He also expressed his pride in Lilian's achievement, saying, “I later joined her at the 25km mark at the Machakos People’s Park covered 10 km and the final kilometres with her to the finishing point at the upcoming A & L Hotel on Machakos road. I am very proud of her. Happy Birthday my love.”
