Published on June 20, 2020, a motion to impeach Governor Charity Ngilu has been filed by Kitui MCAs, led by Majority Leader Peter Mwikya Kilonzo.

The motion, signed by 38 MCAs, will be debated next week and seeks to remove Governor Ngilu from office.

The MCAs have accused Governor Ngilu of various wrongdoings, including abuse of office, misappropriation of public funds, and ignoring county assembly orders.

Specifically, they claim that Governor Ngilu refused to sack county Trade minister Phillip Mumo, who allegedly used fake academic papers to secure the job.

Additionally, the MCAs allege that Governor Ngilu ignored summons to appear before the Senate committee investigating misuse of funds by county governments.

They also point to the deteriorating health services in the county, citing a lack of drugs in hospitals despite sufficient funding allocated by the assembly.

Notably, this impeachment motion comes just two weeks after Governor Anne Waiguru of Kirinyaga was impeached over similar allegations.
