On June 19, 2020, Nairobi County Police Commander Philip Ndolo confirmed that three police officers had tested positive for COVID-19, highlighting the growing concern of the virus's spread within the force.
The officers, who have been instrumental in the ongoing contact-tracing efforts, tested positive after undergoing a check-up and were subsequently isolated at Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital.
According to Commander Ndolo, the first two officers were found to have contracted the virus during their check-up, while the third officer voluntarily visited Mbagathi Hospital to confirm his status.
As a precautionary measure, the families of the affected officers have been placed under mandatory self-quarantine at their residences.
Commander Ndolo also clarified that the three officers were not attached to the Kamukunji police station, but were stationed in different locations.
Meanwhile, the Kenyan government reported 117 new COVID-19 cases on June 19, 2020, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,374.
Health CAS Rashid Aman stated that 112 of the new cases were Kenyans, while five were foreigners, with the cases spread across various regions, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kajiado, and others.
