On June 20, 2020, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru delivered a substantial amount of evidence to the Senate in her defence against impeachment.

The evidence, presented in the evening hours, consisted of documents labeled in separate boxes, totaling not less than 15, which will be reviewed by the 11-member committee set to decide her fate.

"Today at about 4:20 pm I filed responses to the impeachment motion with substantive responses to each of the allegations leveled against me," Governor Waiguru stated through her social media.

She expressed confidence in her legal team and the rule of law, stating, "I have full confidence in my legal team and believe my response is sound. Let's allow the Senate to do its work."

Additionally, she emphasized her faith in the truth and justice, saying, "I have confidence in the rule of law and believe that Truth and Justice will be our shield and defender."

The Senate had voted to support the formation of a select committee to investigate accusations against Governor Waiguru on June 16, 2020.

The 11-member committee, chaired by Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, will be deputised by Abshiro Halake, a Kenya African National Union (KANU) Nominated Senator and Vice-Chair of Information Communication Technology (ICT) committee.
