On Saturday, June 20, 2020, police officers in Kisii County made a shocking discovery at a house in Ogembo town. Thirty-eight teenagers, aged between 13 and 20, were caught engaging in sexual activities and drinking illicit liquor.
According to Kisii Police Commander Jebel Munene, the scene was littered with used condoms, 25 rolls of bang, five liters of illicit liquor, Chang'aa, and 750ml of vodka. Other items recovered included a music amplifier and phone cameras.
The incident occurred just a day after the Ministry of Health warned young people against hosting house parties. Health CAS Dr. Rashid Aman stated that such gatherings were putting them at risk of contracting Covid-19.
"The spread of the virus is concentrated in some areas. This could be attributed to information that we have received about groups of young people who are organizing house parties in Westlands, Lavington, Kileleshwa and Hurlingham," Dr. Aman said.
The 38 teenagers have since been taken for mandatory quarantine at Kisii School, where they will undergo Covid-19 tests.
