On June 15, 2020, Kizza Besigye of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and People Power leader Robert Sentamu Kyagulanyi (aka Bobi Wine) announced a joint strategy for political activities under the United Forces of Change.
Their campaign, dubbed 'No, Nedda,' aims to speak out against injustice and bad governance, with the opposition accusing the Electoral Commission of laying the ground for 'mass rigging' in the 2021 presidential election.
According to People Power spokesperson Joel Ssenyonyi, the United Forces of Change is not an alliance or coalition but a vehicle for joint action against injustice.
Mr. Ssenyonyi stated, 'It is not that we are forming a coalition. That will come, but for now let's start with the basics.'
The joint political plans come ahead of campaigns expected to begin in November, with talks between FDC and People Power having been ongoing for months.
Earlier in the year, Besigye and Bobi Wine released a joint statement saying, 'We took note that we are on the same mission to free Uganda from dictatorship and oppression. We agreed that despite belonging to different formations and fronts, we must work together as partners on the same mission.'
Before joining mainstream politics in 2017, Bobi Wine was a supporter of Dr. Besigye, but their seeming popularity created suspicion and hostility between the FDC and People Power.
