On June 20, 2020, a group of 38 teenagers between 14-20 years were arrested in Ogembo, Kisii, for allegedly drinking chang'aa and engaging in sex in one of the rooms.
Out of the 38, 34 were boys and 4 were girls. The room contained 14 used condoms.
The teenagers will proceed to quarantine as they wait to undergo Covid-19 tests.
These arrests come at a time when Machakos County has raised concerns over a surge in teenage pregnancies. According to a report by the Children's Department Technical Working Group 3, between January and May, 3,800 girls over 15 years and 200 others under 14 years became pregnant.
However, the Machakos government has refuted claims that the county has recorded over 4,000 cases of teenage pregnancy in four months.
