On June 20, 2020, the French government announced a significant easing of restrictions on stadium attendance, allowing up to 5,000 spectators to watch sports events in stadiums when they reopen on July 11.

The limit applies to 'big events, stadiums, and concert halls,' but the government may raise it later in the summer, depending on the national epidemiological situation.

Although football's Ligue 1 and 2 and rugby's Top 14 league ended their seasons in April, the government's decision means a crowd should be able to attend football's French Cup and League Cup finals, which are expected to take place at the end of July.

France has seen over 29,600 deaths related to the coronavirus pandemic, but hospital admissions have been steadily falling, and the national lockdown was lifted in May.
