The Nairobi Hospital has taken drastic measures to recover unpaid claims, suspending Jubilee Insurance from its list of cover providers.

According to a letter dated June 18, 2020, the hospital has outstanding claims worth Ksh. 357 million, accumulated over a three-year period from 2018 to 2020.

The claims include Ksh. 33 million and Ksh. 47.8 million from the 2018 and 2019 packages, respectively, as well as Ksh. 96 million owed since the beginning of 2020.

Nairobi Hospital CEO Allan Pamba emphasized the importance of timely payment by insurance companies, stating, 'Hospitals are currently operating on constrained revenues and on-time payment by insurances for services rendered is critical.'

As a result, the hospital has suspended Jubilee Insurance, and its admitting consultants have been notified of the suspension.

Seamless medical services, however, remain available at the rest of Jubilee Insurance's expansive provider panel, according to Dr. Mary Muthee, head of customer experience.

Published on June 20, 2020, this news comes as Jubilee Insurance announced a 2.6 percent drop in net profit to Ksh. 4 billion for its 2019 financial year report.
