On June 18, 2020, Foreign Affairs Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Ababu Namwamba represented President Uhuru Kenyatta at the swearing-in ceremony of Evariste Ndayishimiye in Burundi.
During his visit, Namwamba was seen taking subtle anti-Covid-19 health precautions, including wearing a mask and gloves upon disembarking from a military plane in Bujumbura.
Photos taken during the ceremony show Namwamba avoiding a handshake with his host, Ndayishimiye, while still wearing his mask.
Ndayishimiye, who was sworn in as the new President of Burundi, begins his first five-year term in office.
The severity of the coronavirus in Burundi remains unknown, with the government not consistently sharing figures, despite fears that senior leaders in the country may have contracted the disease.
