Police officers scuttle planned Ruto's meeting at Injendi's home

On June 20, 2020, a dramatic scene unfolded in Malava, Kakamega county, as police officers blocked Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang'ula and several legislators from entering Malava MP Malulu Injendi's home where Deputy President William Ruto was expected.

According to eyewitnesses, the men in uniform lobbed teargas to disperse a crowd that had gathered outside the home of the Tanga Tanga allied lawmaker.

Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa attempted to negotiate with the officers to allow the meeting to continue, provided the attendees maintained the 1.5 meters social distancing to curb the spread of COVID-19.

However, the officers refused, and lawmakers who had arrived ready to hear from Ruto were forced to scamper for safety, with some being forced to jump over the fence to evade the police.

The disruption came a few hours after Wetang'ula's visit to his home county turned chaotic after his convoy was blocked by heavy anti-riot police officers at Kamukuywa in Kimilili constituency and Sikata area near Bungoma town on June 19, 2020.
