On June 20, 2020, detectives from the DCI made a significant breakthrough in a series of violent robberies in Bungoma County, arresting five suspects believed to be behind the crimes.

The suspects are accused of murdering Stephen Gacheche and stealing Ksh.2M from him on June 8 this year.

According to reports, detectives working on intelligence reports pounced on a 27-year-old suspect, John Wanyonyi, at his Mooka Estate home in Kanduyi, Bungoma, on Friday evening.

During the arrest, detectives recovered several electronics believed to have been stolen from various places within the county, as well as a rain coat, military boots, a settled land sale agreement, and a cash-sale receipt totaling Ksh. 62,000.

Upon interrogation, the suspect led officers to a flat near the Shell petrol station on the Kanduyi-Bungoma road, where four more suspects were arrested.

The suspects, including two Ugandans, were found with a large quantity of stolen electronics, including two TV sets, five mobile phones, two refrigerators, a solar panel, assorted new clothes, beddings, and mattresses.

The items were believed to have been purchased between June 9 and 13, 2020, as per supermarket receipts.

Additionally, detectives recovered three metal bar cutters, a riveting gun, and handcuffs.

All the suspects have been put under lawful custody.
