On March 24, a consignment of 100,000 face masks and 20,000 testing kits donated by Alibaba founder Jack Ma arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi. However, the equipment has since gone missing, sparking concerns about the effectiveness of Kenya's response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), a team of detectives from the JKIA office is investigating the case. However, officials at the JKIA branch denied knowledge of any such investigations, leaving many questions unanswered.

Health Director-General Patrick Amoth acknowledged that the country is experiencing a shortage of test kits, but assured that a new batch would last four weeks. Meanwhile, healthcare workers are complaining about the lack of personal protective equipment, putting their lives at risk.

As the investigation into the missing equipment continues, many are left wondering: did the equipment genuinely disappear at the airport or was it an inside job by well-connected individuals?
