On June 19, 2020, a pedestrian walkway in Nairobi's Westland area was found to be obstructed by a signpost belonging to K1 Klubhouse, a popular restaurant located along Ojijo Road.
The signpost, which announced the club's reopening after Covid-19 restrictions, stood on the newly paved walkway, forcing pedestrians to use the road instead, putting their lives at risk.
Kenyan social media users were quick to condemn the restaurant's actions, with many calling for the removal of the signpost.
However, instead of removing the entire signpost, the club decided to only remove part of it, leaving the rest of the obstruction in place.
"Waking up today half of the signpost removed please clear our way we can't accept half solutions," tweeted @khaunyaomuchimo, a concerned citizen.
The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has since condemned the encroachment, terming it impunity and promising to clear the mess.
"This is impunity and we condemn such practice. Our team will clear the mess and ensure public enjoy the walkways," KURA stated.
