On June 19, 2020, Nairobi County reported a surge in COVID-19 cases, with three police officers testing positive for the virus.

According to Nairobi Police Commander Philip Ndolo, the officers had been playing a vital role in tracing contacts of COVID-19 patients before they tested positive.

Two of the officers were found to have contracted the virus after going for a check-up and were subsequently placed under forced quarantine at the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital, where they are being treated.

The third officer willingly went to Mbagathi Hospital to know his COVID-19 status and tested positive, and was isolated at the same health facility.

Mr. Ndolo also stated that the families of the three officers have been put under forced quarantine at their residences.

He refuted claims that the three officers were attached at the Kamkunji police station, stating that they were attached at various police stations.
