As Kenya continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, three police officers working in Nairobi County have tested positive for the virus.

According to Nairobi County Police Commander Philip Ndolo, the officers were instrumental in the ongoing contact-tracing efforts before they tested positive on Friday.

The first two officers were found to have contracted the virus when they went for a check-up and were later isolated at Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital, where they are being monitored.

The third officer also went voluntarily to Mbagathi Hospital to confirm his status and tested positive, and was isolated at the same facility.

Commander Ndolo has assured that the families of the affected officers have moved into mandatory self-quarantine at their places of residence.

He has also dismissed reports that the three officers were attached to the Kamukunji police station, noting that they are stationed in different stations.

On the same day, 117 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Kenya, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,374.

Health CAS Rashid Aman said 112 of the new cases are Kenyans and five are foreigners, with the latest cases coming from 3,043 samples tested between Thursday and Friday.

As of now, a total of 133,541 cumulative samples have been tested.

The new cases are spread out in various counties, including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kajiado, Kiambu, Nakuru, Garissa, Machakos, Kericho, Busia, Uasin Gishu, and Wajir.
