President Uhuru Kenyatta has called for an urgent meeting with Jubilee Party MPs on June 22, 2020, as divisions within the party continue to escalate.

The meeting, which will be held virtually from State House, comes just a day after Deputy President William Ruto launched the Jubilee Asili Centre and met with rebel MPs.

According to sources, the President will unveil his new parliamentary leadership team during the meeting, amidst reports of a purge within the party.

At least 130 MPs have signed a petition seeking to oust National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale from his position, with some party officials hinting at major changes in the offing.

Deputy President Ruto has been at the centre of the rebellion, meeting with MPs allied to the Tangatanga outfit and unveiling the Jubilee Asili Centre, a parallel office set up by the de-whipped MPs.

The purge has exposed deep divisions within the party, with some officials keen on getting rid of party officials working against the government agenda and those focused on 2022 succession politics.
