On June 19, 2020, a tense scene unfolded in Kimilili town, Bungoma, as police teargassed Ford-Kenya Party Leader Moses Wetangula and his allies.

Wetangula, who had been temporarily replaced as party leader by a splinter faction, was returning to his home turf after leadership wrangles in his party.

As he led a convoy into Kimilili Town, police intervened, citing concerns over social distancing by the crowds gathering around him.

The former Senate Minority Leader was unable to proceed, and his vehicles were forced to halt.

Wetangula urged Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya and Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa to use their positions to ensure the region's development projects were adequately financed and completed in time.
