On June 20, 2020, police in Kisii County made a significant arrest, detaining 38 youths for violating COVID-19 containment rules.
The group, consisting of 34 boys and four girls aged between 14 and 20 years, was found partying in a locked room, disregarding the containment measures in place.
According to Kisii County Police Commander Jebel Munene, the youths were consuming chang'aa, a type of illicit liquor.
Police received information from the public about the party and immediately alerted their officers, who proceeded to the scene.
Commander Munene emphasized the importance of parental supervision, especially during the school closure period, and appealed to parents to monitor their children's activities.
Police are currently following leads to apprehend individuals who collude with illicit liquor brewers to supply alcohol to students.
