Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) managing director interviews have been delayed for another month following a court ruling. The interviews were set to take place after the KPA board of directors advertised the position on April 8, following the resignation of Daniel Manduku on March 26.

On June 11, Commission for Human Rights and Justice Chief Executive Julius Ogogo sued KPA and the Transport Cabinet Secretary, obtaining interim orders stopping interviews for the more than 150 applicants who had shown interest in the position.

According to the court ruling, the judgement date has been set for July 17, allowing the board to continue shortlisting candidates. The board had advertised the position after Daniel Manduku resigned on March 26.

Those who applied for the job included current KPA managers, former managers, and external candidates. However, KPA lawyer Joel Weloba urged the court to dismiss the application, arguing that some of Ogogo's demands were unreasonable.

"As it stands now, no individual has knowledge when or whether Covid-19 will end. People have resorted to innovation and identified new ways of conducting business, including video conferences," said Weloba.

On April 8, the KPA board of directors advertised the position, prompting over 150 applicants to show interest. The interviews were set to take place, but the court ruling has delayed the process for another month.
