The Mombasa Judiciary has closed its doors to open sessions, barely 72 hours after resuming full operation, following the detection of 11 Covid-19 cases among its officers.

Chief Justice David Maraga announced the closure on June 20, 2020, stating that 118 primary contacts within the courts had been identified and were required to self-quarantine immediately.

"The primary contacts within the courts, totaling to 118 officers, have been identified and must now go into self-quarantine with immediate effect as directed by the Ministry of Health officials," the CJ said.

As a result, the Judiciary has been forced to offer virtual services to its court users in the area.

Meanwhile, concerns have been raised about the Nyali Police Station, where 10 inmates tested positive for Covid-19, sparking fears of further spread of the virus.

Reports indicate that some police officers have contracted the virus, and 28 officers who interacted with the infected inmates were tested on Monday, with 10 of them reportedly asked to proceed on self-isolation.

A police source revealed that the officers might have tested positive for the virus and privately received the results before being asked to go for home-based care.
