On June 19, 2020, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula faced a dramatic confrontation with police officers in western Kenya.
Wetangula, accompanied by Bungoma MCA and MPs from the Jubilee and Ford Kenya parties, had arrived in the region to a warm welcome from his supporters.
However, the situation took a turn for the worse when anti-riot police appeared at Kamukuywa in Kimilili constituency, thwarting Wetangula's attempt to address the crowd.
Speaking after the incident, Wetangula blamed Bungoma county commissioner Abdi Mohamed Hassan for the police response.
"We informed the county commissioner that we would be entering from Kamukuywa to Kimilili and finally my home in Namuyemba, but we would not hold any public rally. Instead, we would wave to our supporters as we made our way to my home," Wetangula stated.
