Kenya has reported 117 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of cases to 4,374 since March. The death toll has risen to 119 after two more deaths were recorded.
The new cases were diagnosed from 3,043 samples analyzed within 24 hours, according to Health Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman.
The patients include an 11-year-old and an 83-year-old, with 5 of them being foreigners.
Two of the deaths include a five-year-old boy from Dadaab Refugee in Garissa county, and a 46-year-old patient who had diabetes.
Health Director General Patrick Amoth noted that diabetes is a significant risk factor associated with COVID-19, along with hypertension and other pre-existing conditions.
The new cases are spread across various regions in Nairobi, with 51 cases reported in the city. The cases are concentrated in areas such as Kibra, Langata, Makadara, and Dagoretti North.
Health Chief Administrative Secretary Rashid Aman raised concern over the rising cases in various regions in Nairobi, mainly Westlands, Lavington, Kileleshwa, and Hurlingham. He attributed the surge to house parties organized with total disregard to social distancing regulations.
Aman appealed to Kenyans to take up individual responsibility in observing the containment measures advocated by the Ministry.
