Pep Guardiola Confirms Leroy Sane's Departure from Manchester City ¶
Published on June 19, 2020, Manchester City winger Leroy Sane is set to leave the club after Pep Guardiola confirmed the German international's departure.
Leroy Sane, who joined Manchester City in 2016 for £37m, has been a key player for the team, winning two Premier League titles. However, the 24-year-old has been keen on a move away from the Etihad, rejecting a new contract offered by the club.
According to Guardiola, talks were initiated with Sane, but the winger was keen on joining another team. The club had a deal on the table for Sane, but he never committed his future to the club amid interest from Bayern Munich.
Guardiola revealed that City tried to offer Sane a new contract, but the 24-year-old is keen on a move away from the Etihad. He stated, 'Leroy said he doesn’t want to extend his contract. If he wants to leave and it is going to happen this summer or at the end of the contract,' during the press conference ahead of the Burnley game.
Having recovered from injury, Sane was an unused substitute in the win over Arsenal on June 17. He has not featured for his team after suffering cruciate ligament damage while playing in the Community Shield in August 2019.
