Kenya has reported 117 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 4,374. The new cases were reported after 3,043 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.
According to Health CAS Dr. Rashid Aman, 91 patients have been released from hospitals, while 2 persons have succumbed to the disease. The total number of recoveries now stands at 1,550, while 119 persons have succumbed to the disease.
Of the 117 new cases, 112 are Kenyans, while 5 are foreigners. Dr. Aman revealed that neighboring countries have requested that if one tests positive, their nationality should not be revealed.
The new cases are distributed as follows: Nairobi County recorded 5 positive cases, while Mombasa had 22, Kajiado had 18, Kiambu had 6, and Nakuru and Garissa had 5 cases each.
Dr. Aman attributed the increase in cases to a change in behavior, particularly among the youth who are organizing house parties in complete disregard of social distancing.
Among the dead is a 25-year-old man who died at the Daadab refugee camp, while the other one had diabetes.
Dr. Aman further revealed that contact tracing in State House is ongoing in partnership with State House staff after 4 persons tested positive for the virus recently.
