On June 19, 2020, a tense scene unfolded in Bungoma town as police lobbed teargas to disperse a crowd gathered for a political rally led by Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula.

The rally, which was attended by Wetangula and three MPs - Didmus Baraza (Kimilili), Chris Wamalwa (Kiminini), and Ben Washiali (Mumias East) - was held in defiance of the COVID-19 guidelines that banned public gatherings.

As the crowd grew larger and more rowdy, the police were forced to intervene, using teargas to disperse the crowd and restore order.

The incident highlights the ongoing tensions between politicians and law enforcement in Kenya, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
