President Uhuru Kenyatta has finally filled the vacant position of Controller of Budget, eight months after Edward Ouko's term ended in August 2019.

According to the State House, Nancy Janet Kabui Gathungu emerged as the top candidate among 17 applicants who had expressed interest in the position.

Uhuru has already submitted Gathungu's name to the National Assembly for vetting.

State House spokesperson Kanze Dena confirmed that Uhuru had received the names of the top three candidates, including Gathungu, and had chosen her as the new Controller of Budget.

"Gathungu was one of the three top candidates whose names were submitted to the President for the position of Controller of Budget. She is the one who emerged as the winner and the President has already submitted her name to the National Assembly for vetting," Kanze Dena said.

It is alleged that the names of the 17 applicants were submitted to Uhuru in November last year, but the list was not satisfactory, leading to a delay in making the appointment.
