Uhuru Kenyatta Nominates New Auditor General ¶
Published on June 19, 2020
President Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated Nancy Janet Kabui Gathungu for the position of Auditor General, a role that has been vacant since August 2019.
Gathungu was selected from a pool of top candidates presented to the President by the Recruitment Panel for the Selection of the Auditor General, as required by law.
She is the second nominee for the position, following the failure of the first attempt to fill the role. The President had restarted the process after the initial applicants lacked the necessary qualities, including independence, tactfulness, and diplomacy to manage the relationship between the three arms of government.
Gathungu's name has been forwarded to the National Assembly for vetting, marking the next step in the process to fill the Auditor General's position.
