On June 19, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated Nancy Janet Kabui Gathungu for the position of Auditor General, a move that has been welcomed by many.
According to a statement from State House, Ms. Gathungu's name has been forwarded to the National Assembly for consideration.
Ms. Gathungu was one of the top three candidates presented to President Uhuru by the Recruitment Panel, and her nomination is seen as a significant development in the country's efforts to strengthen its audit functions.
The office of the Auditor General fell vacant in August 2019 following the retirement of Edward Ouko after an 8-year stint.
