On June 19, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta made a significant move in the Kenyan government by nominating Nancy Janet Kabui Gathungu for the position of Auditor General.
According to a statement from State House, Ms. Gathungu's name has been forwarded to the National Assembly for consideration.
Ms. Gathungu was one of the top three candidates presented to President Uhuru by the Recruitment Panel, and her nomination marks a significant step in the process of filling the vacant office of the Auditor General.
The office of the Auditor General fell vacant in August 2019 following the retirement of Edward Ouko after an 8-year stint.
