Kenya's media landscape has been ranked in a recent survey, with Standard Group's KTN News emerging as the most trusted media brand in the country.
According to the Reuters Institute Digital News Report 2020, published on June 19, 2020, KTN News is trusted by 90% of Kenyans, followed closely by Citizen TV (89%), NTV (89%), and Daily Nation (89%).
Other trusted brands in the ranking include Citizen Radio (87%), Business Daily (84%), K24 TV (81%), Taifa Leo (80%), Radio Maisha (80%), and Radio Jambo (80%).
Public broadcaster Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) is trusted less by Kenyans, with only 78% of respondents expressing trust in the outlet.
Tabloid news sources also ranked lower than mainstream media in terms of trust, with Radio Africa's flagship newspaper The Star being the second least trusted brand at 69%.
Top Brands ¶
Citizen TV emerged as the top brand in the weekly use category, with 58% of respondents indicating that they rely on the outlet for more than three days a week.
Other top brands in the category include Daily Nation (36%), NTV (37%), and Kenyans.co.ke (28%).
According to the report, online platforms, including social media, are the most popular avenues for news consumption in Kenya, with 90% of respondents using them to access news.
Smartphones are the most used devices for news material consumption, with 83% of respondents using them to access news.
