On June 19, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta forwarded the name of Nancy Janet Kabui Gathungu to the National Assembly for vetting as the new Auditor-General.

Nancy Kabui, who served as the Director of Quality Assurance at the Office of the Auditor-General, is among the three nominees selected by the President's Selection Panel.

According to the Public Audit Act, 2015, the President was required to declare a vacancy in the position of the Auditor-General, which he did on August 27, 2019.

With 70 candidates vying for the position, Kabui will take over from Edward Ouko, whose 8-year tenure as Auditor-General ended in August 2019, if she is approved by Parliament.
