On June 19, 2020, President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated Nancy Janet Kabui Gathungu for the position of Auditor General, a move that comes after the retirement of Edward Ouko in August last year.
According to a statement by Spokesperson Kanze Dena, Ms Gathungu was the top choice among the three candidates presented to the President by the Recruitment Panel for the Selection of the Auditor General, as required by law.
The President has forwarded Ms Gathungu's name to the National Assembly for vetting, a process that is a crucial step in her appointment to the position.
