On Thursday evening, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria appeared to soften his stance on President Uhuru Kenyatta, whom he praised as a democrat.
According to Kuria, President Kenyatta's promise not to seek a term extension after his reign ends in 2022 is a testament to his commitment to democracy.
“I have always maintained that Uhuru Kenyatta is a democrat. He will neither extend the term limit nor try to be Prime Minister. He will go home with grace and dignity in 2022. He will not support any candidate in 2022,” the controversial MP said.
President Kenyatta made the promise while campaigning for Kenya's bid to have a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in a speech to a US-based Think Tank, the Atlantic Council.
It is worth noting that Kuria has been a vocal critic of President Kenyatta in the past, even going so far as to describe him as 'bewitched'.
