Kenya's government has set its sights on resuming learning in September, following the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. To achieve this goal, public universities have been instructed to cease admitting new quarantine patients.

On June 17, University Education and Research Principal Secretary Simon Nabukwesi issued a circular outlining the measures to be taken by public universities. The directive aims to ease the restrictions imposed to contain the spread of COVID-19.

The government had ordered the closure of all learning institutions in March, following the country's first local case of the virus. To ensure a safe return to on-site learning, universities have been tasked with implementing various measures, including testing, face masks, and the provision of water, soap, and sanitizers.

Universities have also been instructed to develop contingency plans for students and staff who may require assistance to return to their institutions, as well as those who may be unable to do so.

Principal Secretary Nabukwesi has requested that university heads submit a progress report to his office by June 25.
