According to Bungoma South OCPD Wilson Nanga, police followed crucial leads that led them to the suspects' residence in a rented house in Kanduyi Market, located on the outskirts of Bungoma Town, on Thursday night (June 18).
The five suspects, four men and a woman, were arrested and are being held in lawful custody at Bungoma Police Station. It is alleged that they robbed Karuga of his Ksh2 million and then shot him to death at Keringet Hotel in Bungoma Town.
Police recovered household items worth Ksh500,000 when they raided the suspects' house, as well as handcuffs, police uniforms, and boots.
‘We recovered household items worth Ksh500,000 when we raided their house on Thursday night,’ said Nanga.
‘We are now pursuing leads to where they hid the gun believed to have been used in killing a Bungoma-based trader,’ added Nanga.
Businessman Karuga was buried last Tuesday, June 16 at his rural home in Soy, Likuyani Sub-County, Kakamega County.
