On June 19, 2020, Nairobi Hospital's St Luke's Ward was abuzz with excitement as word spread that Felix Orinda, popularly known as DJ Evolve, would be discharged.
Evolve, who has been in the High Dependency Unit for most of his admission, was recently moved to his own ward.
His mother, who has spent countless sleepless nights in the hospital corridors and by his bedside, was visibly moved by the news.
"It's good he is coming home, but he still has a long journey to recovery that will involve the input of our whole family," she said, her voice filled with emotion.
Evolve, who has been unable to regain his voice and has a pipe to pass out mucus, smiled and waved excitedly as his mother ushered us into his ward.
Surrounded by his three younger siblings, a cousin, and two elder relatives, Evolve lay on his bed listening to a music mix through a laptop.
Despite his physical limitations, Evolve's spirit remains unbroken, and he is determined to get back on his feet and entertain his fans once again.
"I see life differently now, and I cannot wait to get back on my feet and entertain again," he whispered excitedly.
Evolve's family is grateful for the support they have received, including a generous donation from Embakasi East legislator Babu Owino, who has committed to paying Evolve's medical bills and catering for his essentials as he recuperates at home.
As Evolve prepares to return home, his family is aware of the challenges that lie ahead, including the need for security and the ongoing physiotherapy to address his paralyzed fingers.
